During the Al Wasl vs Al Nassr match, Dubai fans chanted “Messi, Messi,” prompting Ronaldo to gesture for silence.

Date:

“Classic Ronaldo—reacts to the crowd but still delivers on the pitch as always.”

Cristiano Ronaldo remains pure box office. Every time he steps onto the pitch, something tends to happen—and Dubai got a clear example of that during Al Wasl vs Al Nassr in the AFC Champions League 2 quarter-final.

He stole the spotlight with his 969th career goal in a dominant 4-0 win, followed by his signature “Siu” celebration. The moment was well received by the crowd, adding to a night that many in attendance are likely to remember for years.

The AFC Champions League 2 is effectively Asia’s secondary continental club competition, similar in structure to the Europa League. Al Nassr entered it after missing out on qualification for the top-tier AFC Champions League. Despite that, their squad strength makes them strong favourites in the tournament.

Ronaldo had not featured earlier in the competition but stepped in during the knockout stage, immediately making his presence felt. He opened the scoring and set the tone early, as Al Nassr controlled the match from start to finish, with the difference in quality clearly evident throughout the game.

Messi chants, Ronaldo responds

At 3–0, sections of the Al Wasl crowd began chanting “Messi, Messi,” seemingly aiming to unsettle him. Ronaldo responded in typical fashion—turning toward the stands, gesturing for silence, and holding up three fingers to highlight the scoreline. A sharp, theatrical reply that summed up the moment.

The Ronaldo–Messi rivalry continues to linger even late in their careers. It has defined a generation of football and still surfaces whenever either player steps onto a big stage.

Lionel Messi recently scored a brace for Inter Miami CF, while Ronaldo continues to add to his tally and edge closer to the 1,000-goal milestone. Both remain influential, still producing performances that dominate football conversations.

For Ronaldo, this season could also offer a strong chance of silverware in Saudi Arabia, with Al Nassr FC well placed in domestic competition and emerging as one of the favourites in continental play.

The big questions remain: can he reach 1,000 career goals, and can he still win a World Cup with Portugal?

The 1,000-goal milestone looks increasingly within reach given his current scoring rate, making it a realistic target rather than a distant dream.

As for the World Cup, Portugal national football team certainly has the talent and depth to be considered among the contenders, though international tournaments are notoriously unpredictable.

With Ronaldo, expectations always come with uncertainty—he has consistently defied conventional career arcs and statistical projections. He remains an outlier in the sport, capable of extending narratives far beyond what most players achieve at this stage of their careers.
