UAE Waives Visa Overstay Fines Following Airspace Closure

The United Arab Emirates has announced that travelers unable to leave the country due to the recent airspace closure will have their visa overstay fines waived.

The exemption applies to all UAE visas—including visit visas, tourist visas, exit permits, and residency permits that were cancelled—for fines incurred on or after Saturday, February 28.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced the decision on Wednesday, March 4, to ensure stranded travelers can regularize their legal status without facing financial penalties for circumstances beyond their control.

Recent days have seen widespread flight cancellations, rescheduling, delays, and diversions across the UAE, leaving many travelers unable to depart as planned.

The authority stated that the measure reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach in responding to emergencies and takes into account the exceptional circumstances faced by travelers and visitors during this period.

Specialized teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres across the country are operating under emergency and business continuity plans, in coordination with relevant authorities. These teams are assisting with cases related to delayed or rescheduled flights and providing support to affected travelers.

The authority reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to offering all necessary assistance to travelers and visitors during exceptional situations. It also urged individuals to rely on official government channels for updates and any regulatory measures related to these circumstances.
