Sheikh Hamdan Holds Talks with Oman’s Defence Chief Amid Rising Gulf Tensions

Date:

UAE and Oman coordinate on stability as the Israel‑US‑Iran conflict intensifies.

Dubai: Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and UAE Minister of Defence, held a telephone call with Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, amid rising regional tensions.

The leaders exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in the region and discussed key security developments.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued engagement and close coordination to maintain regional stability and prevent further escalation.

The discussion comes amid heightened security concerns across the Gulf following a sharp escalation over the past three days in the conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. Coordinated US‑Israel military strikes on Iranian targets earlier triggered a series of Iranian ballistic missile and drone retaliatory attacks across multiple countries in the region, including strikes and interceptions over Gulf airspace. These developments have raised alarm across Gulf states, prompting heightened security measures, airspace closures, and widespread disruptions to civil aviation and maritime routes

Sheikh Hamdan has also held similar calls in recent days with Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, Kuwait’s Minister of Defence, and Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs.

In both conversations, the leaders reviewed the latest developments and reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation and strengthened coordination to support regional security and safeguard mutual interests.

Ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) have been intercepted over Gulf airspace, with debris from some attacks causing limited collateral damage in parts of the region. Gulf states, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, have condemned the attacks and reiterated their commitment to defending national sovereignty and maintaining stability.
