Indian Woman Released After Overstaying UAE Visa Returns Home with Legal Assistance

Date:

The woman, who was detained after her sponsor filed an absconding complaint, later returned to Kerala following intervention by a lawmaker.

A woman from the southern Indian state of Kerala has returned home after a period in detention, following legal intervention coordinated by a local lawmaker and a UAE-based legal services firm.

The woman, from Arimpur in Thrissur district, had traveled to Sharjah on a housemaid visa after reportedly paying a substantial sum to an agent. She worked there for about two years before her visa expired.

According to Yab Legal Services, the agent later demanded an additional Dh9,000 (approximately ₹2.2 lakh) to renew her visa—an amount she was unable to pay. She then continued working in Sharjah without valid documentation.

During this time, her sponsor reportedly filed a complaint with immigration authorities, claiming that she had absconded.

After her family filed a missing complaint in India, Manalur MLA Murali Perunelli intervened and sought assistance from Salam Pappinisseri, CEO of Yab Legal Services. The firm coordinated with authorities, completed the required legal procedures—including securing an outpass within two days—and arranged her flight back to India, facilitating her safe return to Kerala.
