A gang of 14 Asian men were caught possessing the drugs during the operation dubbed ‘Death Network’.
In one of the biggest drug hauls in the emirate, 450kg of heroin and crystal meth hidden in plastic bags inside a truck were seized by the Abu Dhabi Police.
A gang of 14 Asian men were caught possessing the drugs during the operation dubbed ‘Death Network’.
The gang was promoting the drugs in the UAE, the police said in a statement.
Police pointed out that their counter-surveillance teams had monitored one of the drug dealers, who operated from several areas of Abu Dhabi.
The police team tracked him down but found out that his suppliers were based in another emirate. After monitoring him for a week, the cops arrested him with another man carrying 5kg of crystal meth and heroin.
Police had been notified that the men worked for an organised gang – based outside the UAE – which had specialised teams who smuggled the drugs and promoted them across the emirates, said Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, director of the anti-narcotics department at the Abu Dhabi Police.
After obtaining all information about the gang’s operations, the police chalked out a strategic plan to nab them and seize the drugs.
“The police arrested 11 men who were found with 189kg of narcotics before the main dealer delivered to the gang another 261kg of drugs for promotion,’ said Al Dhaheri. He added that after the arrest of the first batch, the main dealer had tried to change plans through one of his accomplices so he could hide the drugs.
But the investigation team nabbed the rest of them and confiscated the huge quantity of drugs.
