Housewife raped by vendor at her flat at knifepoint in Dubai

Date:

A man has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly raping a housewife at knifepoint.

The court heard how the 23-year-old Asian vendor used a knife to threaten the woman and forced himself inside her apartment on February 16. “I walked my son to the parking lot to wait for the school bus at 11.30am. I had just got back to my apartment at 11:42am when he (the defendant) attacked me,” the 39-year-old housewife told the prosecutor.

She recounted how the defendant threatened her with a knife before she got inside the flat. “He told me to let him in. I screamed for help but there was no one around. I kicked and pushed him in vain.”

The accused forced her inside her bedroom where he made her take off her clothes and filmed her with his mobile phone. He then raped her and also took Dh200 from her wallet. Later, he told her to make sure the hallway was clear so he could exit unseen. “Before he left, he told he frequently used to spot me shopping at a nearby supermarket in Naif area. He threatened that he would spread the video he took of me if I reported him to the police.”

Her husband lodged a complaint at the police station right after she told him.

The defendant remains in detention as the public prosecution requests that a stiff punishment be inflicted on him. He is also accused of stealing Dh200 from the victim and consuming alcohol without a permit.

A policeman said the woman’s husband stopped their patrol and complained about what happened to his wife. “It was around noon on February 16, we were tipped off later that the defendant was near Bani Yas street. We apprehended him there. He confessed that he raped the woman when we interrogated him. He claimed that he had an amount of Dh135 which he has taken from the woman.”

During the public prosecution investigation, the vendor admitted the rape and theft charges, claiming he was drunk at the time. Bruises on the woman’s body suggested she was a victim of rape, according to the forensic report.

The trial will continue on September 6.
