UAE weather alert: Heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms, and strong winds forecasted for this week

Date:

NCM warns of strong winds, dust, and low visibility amid cloudy conditions.

The UAE is expected to experience unsettled weather until 27 March, with varying rainfall, strong winds, and a significant drop in temperatures across several regions, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported.

Weather systems driving the instability
The NCM explained that a surface low-pressure system, along with an extension of an upper-air low-pressure trough, is causing the unsettled weather. This combination promotes cloud formation and raises the likelihood of convective rainfall across scattered areas.

Monday forecast
Weather is expected to range from partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of rainfall in various parts of the country, especially during the daytime. Showers are likely to continue at night, affecting northern and eastern regions, as well as Al Ain.

Winds are expected to be light to moderate, occasionally fresh to strong with cloud activity, reaching speeds of up to 45 km/h. This may cause blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility.

Temperatures:

  • Coastal areas: 24°C – 27°C
  • Inland areas: 23°C – 28°C
  • Mountainous regions: 17°C – 21°C, with cooler night-time conditions

Sea conditions:
The Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are expected to be slight to moderate, turning rough at times with cloud activity.

Tuesday and Wednesday outlook:
Rainfall is forecast to continue on Tuesday, initially affecting northern, eastern, and southern areas during the day, before spreading at night to western regions, coastal areas, and islands.

Similar conditions are expected on Wednesday, with scattered rainfall during the day. Showers may intensify over eastern regions and Al Ain by night before gradually easing later.

Thursday and Friday forecast
On Thursday, rainfall chances are expected to decrease in the morning but may redevelop in the afternoon over northern and eastern areas and Al Ain, spreading overnight to coastal and western regions.

By Friday, showers are likely to begin over coastal areas and islands, gradually extending to broader parts of the country.

Heavy rainfall and safety warnings
The NCM also cautioned that some convective clouds could produce heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, accompanied by thunder, strong winds, and possible hail. This may lead to runoff in valleys and low-lying areas.

Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution during adverse weather, especially in areas susceptible to flash flooding.

End-of-week outlook
Unstable conditions are expected to gradually ease toward the end of the week, though intermittent rainfall may persist in some areas depending on cloud development.
