Speeding, tailgating and reckless riding contribute to rise in motorcycle crashes across UAE.
Dubai: Motorcycle accidents across the UAE more than doubled over four years, climbing from 605 in 2022 to 1,224 in 2025, according to figures from the Ministry of Interior.
A total of 3,494 motorcycle accidents were recorded nationwide between 2022 and 2025, with the number of crashes rising each year during the four-year period.
The increase in accidents comes as motorcycles have become an increasingly common sight on UAE roads, driven in part by the growth of delivery services as well as the use of privately owned bikes.
Accidents rise every year
Motorcycle accidents increased steadily across the UAE during the four-year period, rising from 605 cases in 2022 to 783 in 2023 and 882 in 2024, before jumping to 1,224 in 2025 — the highest annual figure recorded during the period.
The number of accidents involving delivery motorcycles and privately owned bikes more than doubled between 2022 and 2025.
Speeding and unsafe overtaking among key causes
According to the Ministry of Interior, the increase in motorcycle accidents has been attributed to a range of traffic violations and unsafe riding behaviours.
Key causes include speeding, tailgating, unsafe overtaking, rider distraction, and failure to comply with traffic signals and road signs. Authorities have also highlighted reckless riding and the use of motorcycles in conditions that do not meet road safety requirements.
As motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, authorities have emphasised the need for riders to remain alert, keep a safe distance from other vehicles and exercise caution at all times.
Growing role of motorcycles
Motorcycles have become an increasingly important part of transport across the UAE, particularly with the rapid expansion of delivery services. At the same time, they remain a popular choice for private and personal transportation.
As the number of motorcycles on UAE roads continues to increase, Traffic and Patrol Departments across the country have intensified awareness campaigns and educational programmes aimed at encouraging safer riding habits and reducing traffic violations.
