UAE President appoints Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi as Secretary-General of National Media Authority

Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a Federal Decree appointing Mohammed Saeed Rashid Al Shehhi as Secretary-General of the National Media Authority, with the rank of Undersecretary.

Reporting to the Chairman of the Authority, the Secretary-General will be responsible for shaping, evaluating and monitoring the UAE’s media narrative, while supporting efforts to strengthen the country’s reputation and positive global image.

The Secretary-General will also oversee the early identification of media-related crises affecting the UAE and supervise the development of the Authority’s policies, strategies and legislation aimed at regulating and advancing the national media sector. His responsibilities will also include overseeing the licensing of media organisations and media-related activities.

In addition, he will supervise the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and oversee the registration and accreditation of journalists and correspondents representing foreign media organisations operating in the UAE, including those based in free zones.

Before his new appointment, Mohammed Saeed Rashid Al Shehhi served as Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council. He has also held several leadership roles across the media, specialised economic zones and sports sectors.

During his career, he oversaw the implementation of a number of media sector development initiatives in the UAE and played a key role in strengthening national talent and building local capabilities across these fields.
