UAE prepares for possible showers, stronger winds and cooler weather

Date:

NCM predicts light showers across islands and western coastal regions from Monday night.

Abu Dhabi: The UAE is set to see possible light rain, stronger winds of up to 50km/h and cooler temperatures over the coming days, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

In its latest five-day weather forecast, the NCM said Saturday, November 7, would be generally fair to partly cloudy, with a chance of convective cloud development over eastern parts of the country in the afternoon.

Temperatures are forecast to range between 35°C and 38°C in inland areas, 33°C and 36°C along the coast and on islands, and 23°C to 31°C in mountainous regions.

Winds are expected to be light to moderate, occasionally becoming fresh and reaching speeds of 35km/h. The Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will remain slight.

On Sunday, November 8, the weather is expected to remain mostly fair to partly cloudy, with cloud cover developing over northern and eastern areas.

Southeasterly to northeasterly winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 25km/h, occasionally reaching 35km/h. Sea conditions are expected to remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

Rain possible from Monday night

Cloud cover is forecast to increase on Monday, November 9, particularly over islands and parts of the western coastal areas. The NCM said light rain could occur from Monday night and continue into Tuesday morning.

Winds are expected to change direction from southeasterly to northwesterly, with speeds occasionally reaching 40km/h over the sea.

Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf are forecast to become rough by night, while the Oman Sea is expected to remain slight.

On Tuesday, November 10, skies are expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy over islands and western coastal areas, with a continued possibility of light rain.

Temperatures are forecast to fall, while winds could reach speeds of 45km/h, particularly over the sea. Blowing dust may also occur at times.

The Arabian Gulf is expected to experience rough to very rough sea conditions, while the Oman Sea will be slight to moderate, occasionally becoming rough.

By Wednesday, November 11, winds could strengthen further, reaching speeds of 50km/h. Fresh to strong winds, particularly offshore, may stir up dust and reduce visibility in some areas.

Cloud cover is expected to persist over islands and parts of the coastal regions, with another chance of light rainfall.

Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf will remain rough to very rough, while the Oman Sea is forecast to be slight to moderate, becoming rough at times during the night.

According to the NCM, these weather changes will be driven by a weak surface pressure system and an extension of weak high pressure in the upper atmosphere.
