Dubai Police impose 518 fines in crackdown on noisy engines and illegal vehicle modifications.

Dubai: Dubai Police impounded 218 vehicles and issued 518 traffic fines in October as part of a crackdown on motorists whose vehicles generate excessive noise, including those who deliberately rev their engines to create loud sounds.
The enforcement campaign was conducted across the emirate using specialised smart monitoring devices and field patrols. It targeted behaviour that disturbs residents and disrupts public tranquillity.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said authorities were stepping up efforts to tackle noisy vehicles, with plans to extend the use of smart monitoring technology to more locations.
The expansion will involve increasing the number of devices used to detect vehicle noise violations, improving monitoring efficiency and helping enforcement teams identify and deal with offenders more effectively.
He said providing residents with a comfortable and peaceful environment remains a priority for Dubai Police, describing excessive vehicle noise as unacceptable behaviour that affects quality of life and undermines community responsibility.
Noisy vehicles affect residents’ health and sleep
Brigadier bin Suwaidan warned that excessive vehicle noise, whether caused by illegal engine and exhaust modifications or irresponsible driving, goes beyond being a mere nuisance.
Such behaviour can affect residents’ psychological well-being and disrupt their sleep, particularly that of children, elderly people and those who are ill. He said it was therefore essential to tackle the problem and minimise its impact on the community.
He added that Dubai Police would take firm action against motorists who deliberately disturb residents by creating excessive noise.
The warning covers vehicles fitted with modifications or additions that produce loud sounds, as well as sports car drivers who misuse their vehicles by deliberately revving their engines.
He also cautioned motorists against using public roads and residential neighbourhoods to show off their vehicles, generating unnecessary noise and disturbing residents.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that owning a sports car or modifying a vehicle does not give motorists the right to disrupt public tranquillity or compromise the comfort of others. Offenders will face strict legal action, including vehicle impoundment, under applicable legislation, with no exceptions.
Dh2,000 fine and 12 traffic points
Brigadier bin Suwaidan outlined the penalties for motorists whose vehicles generate excessive noise.
Under traffic regulations, driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise carries a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 traffic points.
Unauthorised modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis attract a Dh1,000 fine, 12 traffic points and 30 days of vehicle impoundment.
Vehicle owners must also pay Dh10,000 in release fees to recover their vehicles, in accordance with Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 on vehicle impoundment in the emirate.
Residents urged to report noisy driving
The traffic chief urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, keep their vehicle exhaust systems in good condition and avoid unauthorised modifications.
He also advised drivers to refrain from sudden acceleration or deliberately revving their engines to produce loud noises, while being mindful of residential areas, particularly at night.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan called on residents to support the authorities by reporting disruptive traffic behaviour through the Police Eye service on the Dubai Police smart application or by calling 901.
He stressed that improving road safety and maintaining public tranquillity are shared responsibilities that require awareness, cooperation and commitment from everyone in the community.
