UAE introduces new work visa requirement for Ghanaians, Ghana ministry announces

Date:

Ghanaian nationals currently in the UAE on visit visas who intend to take up employment will have 45 days to comply with the new requirements.

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed citizens of new requirements for those seeking employment opportunities in the UAE.

The ministry said the updated rules were introduced following a UAE Cabinet decision requiring all applicants for employment visas to obtain a Good Conduct Certificate, also known as a Police Clearance Certificate.

The implementation of the new requirement was rolled out in two phases in Ghana, according to the authorities. Both phases are currently in effect.

The first phase of the requirement, which took effect on March 30, 2026, applies to all worker categories applying for employment visas from Ghana.

The second phase, implemented on July 20, 2026, extends the requirement to all worker categories arriving in the UAE.

The authority also informed prospective applicants that Ghanaian nationals currently in the UAE on visit visas who intend to convert their visas to employment visas will have 45 days to comply with the new requirements.

It urged citizens to contact the relevant authorities if they have any questions or concerns.
