The UAE condemned the incident as a “dangerous escalation” and a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty.
The UAE has strongly condemned an Iranian drone attack that was intercepted by the country’s air-defence systems over its territorial waters on Monday, August 31.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) said the UAE holds Iran fully responsible for the attacks and any resulting consequences.
The UAE described the incident as a “dangerous escalation” and a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty, security and stability, warning that it posed a direct threat to the safety of citizens and residents.
The UAE said the hostile attacks represent a dangerous escalation, unacceptable aggression and a direct threat to the country’s security, stability and territorial integrity, in violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
The UAE also recalled that on August 18, its air-defence systems detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran and directed towards maritime navigation.
The UAE stressed that it would not tolerate threats to its security or sovereignty under any circumstances. It said it reserves the full and legitimate right to respond to such attacks in a manner that protects its sovereignty, national security, territorial integrity and the safety of citizens, residents and visitors, in accordance with international law.
It condemned the targeting on legal and humanitarian grounds and called for the hostile attacks to stop immediately, while urging full adherence to a cessation of hostilities.
Earlier, the UAE confirmed that its air-defence systems had responded to a drone detected over its territorial waters. Authorities said the country remained on full alert and prepared to respond to any threats, with air-defence systems monitoring and tracking national airspace around the clock.
The authorities also denied reports that Al Minhad Air Base had been targeted, urging the public to rely on official sources for information and refrain from circulating rumours or inaccurate reports.
The UAE also condemned what it described as “aggressive” missile attacks targeting Jordan, calling them a “flagrant violation of sovereignty”.
The latest developments followed an exchange of fire between the US and Iran early Monday. The United States said it had struck Iranian rocket launchers on a small island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran subsequently said it had attacked US military targets in Jordan in retaliation for the American strikes on its territory, marking a fresh escalation in the six-month conflict.
