Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health has issued a warning against a new weight-loss coffee product which is being promoted on social media.

In a circular, the department said that samples of the Lishou Slimming 3-in-1 Instant Coffee showed that the product contains prohibited substances that increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, Emarat Al Youm reported.

The product is one of 444 counterfeit products detected by the department. All of which were promoted as weight loss products.

The product is not approved for legal sale in UAE, the department noted.

Additionally, the department urged the public to report any complaints regarding the quality of medical products, stressing that all counterfeit weight loss products will be banned by authorities including the Ministry of Health and Prevention, and other international entities such as US Food and Drug Administration.
