Spider-Man sequel becomes one of the fastest films ever to hit $1 billion.

Tom Holland’s latest outing as Spider-Man is moving at a pace matched by only a handful of Hollywood blockbusters.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide just six days after its theatrical release, making it one of the fastest films ever to reach the milestone. Only Avengers: Endgame achieved the feat sooner, reaching the benchmark in 2019.
A record-setting run
The Marvel-Sony release has turned almost every day of its theatrical run into a box office achievement. In North America, the film has already earned $407 million, becoming the fastest movie to surpass the $400 million domestic mark.
It also recorded the highest-grossing Monday in box office history, highlighting strong audience demand and repeat viewings that have continued to fuel its momentum.
The film has now overtaken Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, despite the sci-fi epic receiving a two-week head start in cinemas. Nolan’s film opened with $260 million globally and crossed the $800 million mark before Brand New Day entered theatres.
However, the web-slinger quickly narrowed the gap, reaching the $1 billion milestone before The Odyssey could do so. As of Monday, Nolan’s latest spectacle had earned $923 million worldwide.
Internationally, the film has added a further $645.8 million, pushing its worldwide total comfortably beyond the billion-dollar mark in less than a week.
The performance follows an explosive opening weekend, when the film delivered record-setting ticket sales and quickly established itself as one of the biggest launches in Marvel’s history and the wider global box office.
Marvel reacts to the milestone
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described the achievement as “overwhelming” in comments to Variety, saying he never expected Avengers: Endgame’s domestic opening record to be surpassed but was delighted to see the milestone reached with the studio’s latest release.
What it means next
The film’s success is also boosting confidence ahead of Marvel’s next major ensemble project, Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December. The film will mark Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise, this time playing the villain Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man.
With limited major competition in the coming weeks and strong word of mouth continuing to drive ticket sales, industry observers expect Brand New Day to maintain its rapid box office momentum.
The film is now well positioned to chase the rare $2 billion milestone, a benchmark achieved by only a small number of movies in cinema history.
