The Abu Dhabi Police have announced opening of the first smart gate that will monitor the weather conditions and fine the erring drivers on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road from Sunday, March 8. 

According to the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, the newly installed smart gate will monitor the weather conditions and send immediate signals to the operations room.

According to the weather conditions and visibility during the time, the speed limit on the road will be adjusted and displayed on the smart gate.

The police urged drivers to comply with the speed limit displayed in the screens of the smart gate, adding that the radar installed in the smart gate captures traffic violations, such as speeding, tailgating, unauthorised presence of heavy vehicles on the road, parking on the hard shoulder of the road, blocking the road etc. It will also capture vehicles with expired permits.

The police stressed on the need to follow the guidance messages that are being displayed on the smart gate’s display system during volatile weather conditions. It will also display preventive instructions through the Abu Dhabi Police smart system, which include traffic guidelines, reduced speed limit and stopping the vehicle traffic.

The aim of smart gate is to reduce traffic accidents and enhance traffic safety for the road users and curbing violations to ensure traffic safety through smart systems.
