Dubai crackdown targets illegal disposal of sewage and petrochemical waste.
Dubai: Dubai Police have taken legal action against 18 suspects and seized 17 tankers for allegedly dumping sewage, petrochemical waste and other hazardous materials at unauthorised locations across the emirate.
The violations were detected during the first half of 2026 by the Environmental Crimes Section of Dubai Police’s Economic Crimes Department, under the General Department of Criminal Investigation. The crackdown was conducted in coordination with Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority as part of broader efforts to detect environmental offences and protect public health.
Investigators identified the suspects after determining that they had violated regulations governing the disposal of hazardous materials. Legal action was initiated against all 18 individuals, while the 17 tankers involved in the offences were confiscated.
Dubai Police stressed that sewage, petrochemical waste and other hazardous materials must be disposed of only at authorised sites and in accordance with approved procedures. The force warned that dumping such waste in unauthorised areas can pose serious risks to public health and the environment.
Authorities attributed the operation’s success to close coordination and information-sharing between the agencies involved, enabling environmental violations to be detected and addressed swiftly.
Dubai Police also called on companies and individuals operating in the sector to comply fully with waste disposal regulations, emphasising that the safe and responsible handling of hazardous materials is crucial to safeguarding public health and protecting the environment.
