The ‘Health for All’ initiative provides dental, eye, and skin care services within prisons.

Sharjah: For dozens of inmates at the Sharjah Punitive and Rehabilitation Centre, a routine day turned more hopeful as doctors, dentists, and healthcare specialists arrived with a clear message — healthcare is for everyone.

Under the “Health for All” initiative, Sharjah Police, in cooperation with the Sharjah Health Authority and the University of Sharjah, launched a humanitarian healthcare programme aimed at improving inmates’ wellbeing and ensuring access to specialised medical care in a safe and supportive environment.

Inside the facility, mobile clinics and medical teams worked side by side to deliver services beyond routine check-ups. A fully equipped mobile dental clinic provided treatment and oral healthcare, while ophthalmology and dermatology specialists carried out examinations, offered treatment, and provided consultations tailored to inmates’ needs.

Officials said the initiative reflects Sharjah Police’s broader commitment to placing human wellbeing at the centre of its correctional and rehabilitation system. By strengthening partnerships with healthcare and community institutions, the force aims to build an integrated care model that addresses inmates’ physical, social, and humanitarian needs.

The initiative also emphasises preventive healthcare and early detection of illnesses, reinforcing efforts to improve overall health standards within correctional facilities in line with established medical and humanitarian practices.

For Sharjah Police, the programme is more than a medical campaign; it forms part of a wider reformative approach aimed at fostering an environment where dignity, care, and rehabilitation are central, while ensuring inmates have access to quality healthcare that safeguards their health and safety.
