Crowded New Year’s Eve (NYE) parties in Sharjah are banned, and violators will be fined Dh10,000, the police have announced. Gatherings must be socially distanced, with at least a four-metre gap between guests.

This is among the several Covid safety measures specified by the Sharjah Police for NYE revellers.

Dubai had earlier announced that NYE parties with over 30 guests are banned in the emirate. The host of such parties would be fined Dh50,000, and each guest, Dh15,000.

Abu Dhabi announced on Tuesday that private NYE parties and get-togethers — either at home or in public places — are strictly prohibited. Violators shall face a fine of Dh10,000.

The Sharjah Police also said that revellers must wear masks and constantly sanitise their hands. A top officer urged the elderly and those with chronic diseases to avoid NYE parties.

Brigadier Dr Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director-General of Central Operations and Chairman of the Executive Committee for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, said instant fines would be issued to those found violating Covid safety rules.
