The vaccine helps protect against infections in mass gathering settings.

Saudi Ministry of Health has announced that all personnel involved in the 2026 Hajj season must receive the meningococcal vaccine before beginning work, as part of strengthened preventive health measures ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
Health Ministry spokesman Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi said the requirement follows directives from the Supreme Hajj Committee and aims to reduce the risk of infectious disease transmission in crowded settings and protect both workers and pilgrims.
He said the vaccine helps protect against serious infections that can spread quickly during mass gatherings and reduces transmission risks among both workers and pilgrims. He added that the approved vaccine remains valid for five years, so individuals vaccinated within that period will not require another dose.
Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi said vaccination is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a Hajj work permit, urging workers to receive the dose at least 10 days before starting duties to ensure optimal protection. He also encouraged them to take other recommended vaccines, including seasonal influenza and updated COVID-19 booster doses.
The Saudi Ministry of Health said healthcare providers across security, military, and university institutions have been authorised to administer vaccinations directly at workplaces, improving access and strengthening health preparedness ahead of the pilgrimage season.
