Runway at Euro Airport to Undergo Renovation Between 15 April and 20 May 2026

Date:

EuroAirport Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg to Close Runway for Renovation from 15 April to 20 May 2026

Basel/EuroAirport: EuroAirport Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg (Swiss side) will temporarily close its runway for renovation works from 15 April to 20 May 2026, Air France-KLM announced on 29 October 2025. During this period, Air France and KLM services from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Basel will be suspended. Passengers have been rebooked on Air France and KLM flights to and from Zurich.

Background

The spring 2026 runway renovation follows preparatory works that began on 23 September 2024, which included the creation of a dedicated construction platform and daytime operational planning designed to minimise disruption to airport activities. The agricultural land used for these works is scheduled to be restored by 2027.

The airport, which handled a record 2.4 million passengers in summer 2025, reached a daily high of 36,802 passengers on 8 August 2025, reflecting its growing importance as a cross-border hub serving Switzerland, France, and Germany.

Operational Impact

Airport authorities and airlines are taking steps to mitigate passenger inconvenience, including alternative flight arrangements and clear communication of updated schedules. Travelers are advised to check flight status and rebooking options in advance, particularly for flights to Paris and Amsterdam during the closure period.

Future Outlook

The runway renovation is part of EuroAirport’s ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving safety, capacity, and operational efficiency. Once completed, the airport will be better equipped to handle increasing passenger volumes and support sustainable, long-term growth in the region.
