Fishing in UAE suspended due to strong winds

Date:

Police have also urged the motorists to be cautious while driving on slippery roads.

Winds with speeds of up to 60km/h have brought all fishing activities in Ras Al Khaimah to a stop. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the sea will be “rough to very rough” over the next three days. Wave heights of up to 12 feet are expected till 12pm on Sunday.

Sources at the RAK fishermen society said deep sea waves are very high. However, the fish prices haven’t gone up due to “the surplus amounts available in the market”.

Rains have been battering the emirate since the last three days, bringing the temperature down by 8°C. The NCM said blowing sand and suspended dust have reduced horizontal visibility to less than 2,000 metres at times.

The weather was partly cloudy and hazy at times, with a significant fall in temperatures on Saturday.

Police forces across the country have warned drivers against speeding due to the reduced visibility. They have also urged the motorists to be cautious while driving on slippery roads.
