Through a live stream, Al Muhairi expressed his wish to donate a plot of land and its buildings.
In a first for a foundation in Dubai, an Emirati was able to officially donate land to charity without having to leave his home: He live-streamed his testimony to a judge via an iPad.
Registered by Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (Amaf), it was the first endowment contribution done through a visual testimony system, in cooperation with Dubai Courts.
To establish visual contact between the Emirati donor, Ubaid Ghanem Ubaid bin Shaiban Al Muhairi, and a judge at the Dubai Courts headquarters, Amaf’s endowment development department conducted a video conference by using an iPad. Originally, the procedure requires donors to be physically present before a judge to confirm their endowments.
Through a live stream, Al Muhairi expressed his wish to donate a plot of land and its buildings.
“I donate the land and its buildings for general charity purposes, provided that I will be responsible for the management of this endowment as long as I am alive. Afterwards, the endowment’s management will move to Amaf, which will continue to spend its revenues on general charity purposes,” he said.
Ali Al Mutawa, secretary-general of Amaf, said the new donation process was just among many other smart initiatives and services of the foundation.
“We are seeking to innovate the diverse types and methods of endowment within our purview. We have recently listed several of our smart endowment options on the Dubai Now application,” said Al Mutawa.
“This has significantly enhanced convenience, enabling donors to contribute endowments anytime and anywhere through their smart devices.”
Taresh Eid Al Mansouri, managing director of Dubai Courts, said: “Our Customer Happiness Department is committed to providing smart, transparent, efficient and convenient services that meet the needs of the UAE’s citizens and residents. Through establishing smart communication channels, we are able to enhance customer happiness as part of our efforts to achieve our strategic plan.”
