Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall Dismisses Decline Rumours, Announces 38 New Store Openings

Date:

Mall Operator Confirms 38 New Outlets as Part of a Major Redevelopment Plan Amid Social Media Speculation About Ibn Battuta Mall’s Future.

Is Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall losing its popularity? The question has sparked widespread discussion on social media in recent weeks, with videos and online conversations raising concerns about the future of one of the city’s most recognisable shopping destinations.

However, newly released information from the mall’s management indicates that 38 new retail, dining and entertainment outlets have either opened recently or are preparing to launch as part of an extensive redevelopment initiative.

According to Dubai Retail, the expansion forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the mall’s shopping, dining and leisure offerings while improving its overall appeal to visitors.

Of the 38 announced businesses, 21 outlets are already operational, while the remaining 17 are expected to open by the end of 2027.

The announcement follows a series of social media posts questioning whether Ibn Battuta Mall is experiencing a decline.

Several videos circulating online showed relatively quiet sections of the shopping centre, prompting some visitors to suggest that customer numbers may have decreased.

However, these recordings represent individual experiences at particular times and do not necessarily reflect the mall’s overall visitor activity or business performance.

Although Dubai Retail did not directly address questions from Khaleej Times regarding the online speculation, the operator’s latest figures provide additional perspective on the mall’s current operations and expansion plans.

According to Dubai Retail, Ibn Battuta Mall attracts approximately 1.5 million visits every month, indicating that the destination continues to receive substantial visitor traffic.

First opened in 2005, the shopping centre takes its name from the celebrated 14th-century traveller Ibn Battuta.

The mall is recognised for its distinctive architectural design, featuring six themed courts inspired by the different regions explored during the traveller’s journeys.

Today, more than 350 businesses operate within the mall, offering visitors a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment experiences.

New Restaurants and Cafés Expand Dining Choices

As part of its ongoing redevelopment, Ibn Battuta Mall has welcomed several new food and beverage brands, giving visitors additional dining options.

Among the restaurants and cafés that have already opened are Five Guys, Jimmy John’s Sandwiches, Marugame Udon, Caribou Coffee, Halla Shawarma, Zaika and Butter & Bread.

These additions form part of the mall’s wider efforts to diversify its food and beverage selection and attract shoppers seeking a broader range of dining experiences.

Additional dining outlets expected to open at Ibn Battuta Mall include Peet’s Coffee, Ocean Basket, Asia Kitchen and Smoothie Factory, further expanding the selection of restaurants and cafés available to visitors.

New Cinema and Family Entertainment Attractions

Entertainment is another major focus of Ibn Battuta Mall’s redevelopment plans, with several new leisure attractions scheduled to open.

One of the most anticipated additions is Roxy Cinemas, which will introduce a new cinema experience for moviegoers at the shopping destination.

The mall is also preparing to welcome Hopa Loompa Entertainment, a family-focused leisure attraction designed to provide additional recreational options.

Recent entertainment openings include Zamania by Leo & Loona and Like Bricks, while Toy Station is among the upcoming additions.

These developments are intended to broaden the mall’s entertainment offerings and provide more activities for families and visitors of different age groups.

Fashion and Retail Brands Join Ibn Battuta Mall

The mall is also expanding its retail portfolio with the arrival of several fashion, lifestyle and speciality brands.

Recently opened stores include Jack & Jones, Anta, Tanishq, Magrabi, Mumuso and Suit Sartoria, offering shoppers a wider selection of clothing, accessories and lifestyle products.

Further additions are planned, with OWNDAYS and Puzzle Supplements preparing to launch their outlets.

Other businesses expected to join the mall include Chemist Warehouse, Midi, My Shops and Cantata, contributing to the growing variety of retail options.

Banking, Healthcare and Education Services Expand

Beyond conventional shopping, dining and entertainment, Ibn Battuta Mall is diversifying its tenant portfolio by introducing businesses that cater to residents’ everyday needs.

According to the mall’s management, new and upcoming service providers include ADCB, Amit Care, Doctor M, Melodica and Desco Copy & Print Centre.

These additions cover several sectors, including banking, healthcare, education and professional services, positioning the mall as a convenient destination for both shopping and essential services.

Growing Residential Communities Support Mall Expansion

Dubai Retail highlighted that residential developments surrounding Ibn Battuta Mall over the past decade have contributed to an increase in the size and diversity of its customer base.

The operator explained that the area’s expanding residential population has created opportunities to introduce a broader range of businesses and services catering to local communities.

According to Dubai Retail, the 38 recently opened and upcoming outlets are expected to strengthen the mall’s combination of shopping, dining, entertainment and everyday convenience.

The redevelopment strategy aims to reinforce Ibn Battuta Mall’s role as both a major retail destination and a community-focused centre serving residents in surrounding neighbourhoods.
