Mohammed Parvez paused his delivery to take quick action after spotting a damaged irrigation pipe.
Dubai: A delivery rider who paused his journey to address a leaking irrigation pipe that was flooding a busy Dubai road has been recognised by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai for his quick response and civic responsibility.
Mohammed Parvez, a Deliveroo rider, was on his way to deliver a customer’s order when he noticed water spilling across the road and causing traffic congestion.
Rather than simply riding past the scene, Parvez stopped to find out what was causing the problem. He discovered a damaged landscaping irrigation pipe releasing large volumes of water onto the road, disrupting traffic and potentially creating a safety hazard for motorists.
Although fixing such infrastructure issues was well beyond his responsibilities as a delivery rider, Parvez decided to step in. He pulled over and attempted to stop the leak, determined to prevent the situation from causing further inconvenience.
“I didn’t give up,” Parvez said. “I said, ‘No, I have to stop it.’”
His actions were captured on video by social media influencer Mr Hamad. The footage quickly attracted attention online, with residents praising Parvez for taking responsibility and helping despite having no obligation to intervene.
The video eventually caught the attention of GDRFA Dubai, which invited Parvez to its headquarters to recognise his efforts.
Parvez admitted that he initially felt nervous after receiving the call, as he was unsure why the authority wanted to meet him.
His concern soon turned to pride when officials presented him with a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative gift, acknowledging his contribution to public safety and community service.
GDRFA Dubai said Parvez was recognised for taking the initiative to deal with a damaged irrigation pipe on a Dubai street, describing his intervention as a simple gesture that had a meaningful impact.
The authority highlighted his actions as an example of civic responsibility, showing how an individual’s willingness to step forward can make a positive difference to the wider community.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, is also expected to meet Parvez in his office to personally acknowledge his initiative and contribution to community safety.
Speaking after being honoured, Parvez expressed his gratitude to Dubai residents and the authorities for the overwhelming support and appreciation he received.
“I received so much love and appreciation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you, Dubai,” he said.
The incident has gained widespread attention on social media, with residents applauding Parvez for taking time out of his daily work to step in and help. What began as a simple act of responsibility helped prevent a potentially bigger problem and ultimately earned him recognition across the city.
