Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that it does not grant permits for major engine modifications, excessive noise alterations, or any changes that affect a vehicle’s original factory specifications. The authority said these restrictions are intended to protect road users and ensure vehicles continue to comply with approved safety standards.
Ahmed Mahboob, Chief Executive Officer of the Licensing Agency at the RTA, advised vehicle owners to seek approval from the authority before making any modifications. He cautioned that some alterations could require significant investment while still failing to meet regulatory requirements.
He added that the RTA has specialist teams responsible for reviewing proposed vehicle modifications and advising owners on whether they comply with approved standards before any work is carried out, according to Al Bayan newspaper.
Mahboob explained that vehicle modifications must not affect the engine or other components in a way that changes the manufacturer’s original specifications. He highlighted that vehicles are designed, manufactured, and tested to meet international safety standards.
He added that the authority may suggest adjustments to proposed modifications to help ensure they comply with regulations, allowing owners to avoid the need to undo unauthorised changes at a later stage.
He reiterated that permits are not granted for major engine upgrades or modifications that result in increased vehicle noise levels.
The permitted maximum noise limit is 95 decibels, with compliance monitored by the relevant authorities.
Mahboob said the primary aim of these regulations is to protect drivers, pedestrians, and all road users by ensuring vehicles continue to meet approved safety standards.
