Entrepreneur Granted Interim Bail After Being Detained in Kerala Over Alleged Overseas Job Fraud.
A Dubai-based company owned by an entrepreneur facing scrutiny in the southern Indian state of Kerala continues to operate as usual, a customer service representative told. The project management firm said both its UAE branches, located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, remain open.
“We are open and our work is going on as normal,” a customer service representative of the company said. “We are a company that has been operating for over a decade. We continue to help people to migrate to Canada and find work visas in other European countries.”
Kerala Police confirmed to the media on Thursday that the entrepreneur, who had travelled from Dubai to Kerala’s capital, Trivandrum — officially known as Thiruvananthapuram — was taken into custody in connection with an alleged overseas employment fraud case. She was subsequently granted interim bail.
According to Indian media reports, the entrepreneur was detained following complaints from jobseekers who alleged that her company had taken money after promising them employment opportunities in Poland and Armenia.
Under Indian law, being taken into custody does not necessarily amount to a formal arrest. A person may be detained for questioning or investigative purposes, with any decision to file charges depending on the findings of the investigation.
Focus on work
An employee of the company said the entrepreneur had remained in regular communication with staff during the developments.
“Madam has been in constant touch on our employee groups,” she said. “She told us all to continue focusing on work and not pay attention to what was being circulated on media and social media.”
The employee also expressed confidence that the entrepreneur would ultimately be cleared of the allegations.
“Madam said that the case was based on a misunderstanding and that she would be cleared in a day or two,” she said. “We are confident we will weather this storm.”
Indian media reports have alleged that the woman left for Dubai after the case was registered in January. However, a company employee said she was unaware of any such circumstances and questioned the claim.
“If she knew that there was a case against her, why would she travel to India?” the employee asked. “She had no idea that there were legal proceedings against her.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the allegations.
