Khor Mor gas to supply Kirkuk’s Taza power station under initial one-year agreement.
Dubai: Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have begun supplying natural gas to Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity to support power generation and improve electricity services in Kirkuk.
The gas supply from the Khor Mor field will support the Taza power station in Kirkuk under an initial one-year agreement.
The companies will supply 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from the Khor Mor gas processing facility in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region to the Taza power station in Kirkuk.
The supply agreement will run for an initial period of one year and follows a deal signed with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity in December.
Additional gas supply to support power generation
Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum jointly operate the Kurdistan Gas Project and began the new deliveries after completing an expansion that increased production capacity at the Khor Mor gas facility.
The KM250 expansion was commissioned in October 2025 and increased production capacity by 50% to 750 million standard cubic feet per day.
The additional capacity has enabled the companies to supply new markets through pipeline connections linked to the Khor Mor facility.
“This first delivery of gas to Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity is an important milestone for the companies in developing the gas sector in the Kurdistan Region, while also supporting Iraq’s growing electricity demand and contributing to improved services for the people of Iraq,” said Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of the Board of Dana Gas.
Jafar thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government, local authorities in Sulaymaniyah and Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity for their support and partnership in achieving the milestone.
Companies target further energy cooperation
The supply agreement provides Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum with another market for the additional production capacity created by the KM250 expansion.
Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, said the agreement represents an important step in capturing the benefits of the company’s ongoing expansion programme.
“By leveraging the additional capacity created through the KM250 expansion, it lays the foundation for further energy cooperation within Iraq’s growing market, strengthening energy security while supporting more reliable electricity services,” Hall said.
Khor Mor supplies majority of KRI power generation
Gas produced by the Khor Mor project fuels more than 80% of electricity generation in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, supporting power supplies for more than eight million people across the region and other Iraqi governorates.
Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have invested more than $4 billion in the operations, which have generated more than 47,000 direct and indirect jobs.
