Al Ain records 35% surge in new business licences as investment momentum grows

Date:

Construction licences surge 178% as Al Ain’s technology and financial sectors continue to expand.

The number of new economic licences issued in Al Ain rose 35 per cent in the first half of 2026 to 2,225, driven by strong growth in construction and sectors linked to the future economy.

The figures were announced on the second day of the inaugural Al Ain Future Business Forum, organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED). Held under the theme “Invest, Develop, Thrive”, the forum highlighted broad-based growth across the region’s economy as Abu Dhabi continues efforts to diversify its economy and attract investment beyond the capital.

Held on September 23 and 24 under the patronage of Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Ain Region, the two-day forum brought together government officials, business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and academics.

Hamad Sayah Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, said Al Ain is among the fastest-growing regions in the UAE and the wider Gulf.

He said the region’s strengths in talent, knowledge, innovation, agriculture, tourism and advanced manufacturing position it to play an increasingly important role in Abu Dhabi’s broader economic transformation.

“Investors are increasingly recognising the opportunities offered by the Al Ain Region, and the indicators for the first half of this year confirm the attractiveness of the region’s business environment and its future economic potential,” Al Mazrouei said.

Construction licences jump 178%

Construction was among Al Ain’s fastest-growing sectors, with 698 new licences issued in the first half of 2026, representing a 178 per cent increase from the same period last year. Manufacturing also recorded growth, with 121 new economic licences issued, up 10 per cent from 110 in the first six months of 2025.

Growth was particularly strong in sectors linked to the future economy. New licences for professional, scientific and technical activities surged 263 per cent, while financial and insurance activities increased 125 per cent. Information and communications technology licences rose 83 per cent.

Al Mazrouei said the figures highlight the expanding range of business opportunities in Al Ain and growing interest among investors and entrepreneurs in sectors expected to play a key role in the economy’s future.

He added that Abu Dhabi’s development strategy goes beyond simply increasing the number of businesses, focusing instead on creating an environment where companies can establish themselves, grow and expand.

The approach is intended to help businesses and investors in Al Ain take advantage of opportunities across Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE, while also supporting their expansion into international markets, Al Mazrouei added.

The forum focused on transforming Al Ain’s competitive strengths and economic potential into investment opportunities, partnerships and initiatives that can contribute to sustainable growth.

The two-day event brings together more than 4,800 policymakers, senior business executives, investors and entrepreneurs from around the world, along with more than 70 speakers. Discussions cover investment opportunities, talent development, advanced manufacturing, agricultural technology, smart mobility, renewable energy and sustainable tourism.
