Abu Dhabi boosts smart mobility by expanding its fleet of driverless taxis.

The Integrated Transport Centre, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has increased commercial operations of Level 4 autonomous taxis on Yas Island, advancing the emirate’s drive toward smart and sustainable mobility. The project is being carried out under the guidance of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council.

The expanded services are being rolled out in partnership with Apollo Go, a subsidiary of Baidu, with Autogo acting as the local operator. Introducing Autogo enhances Abu Dhabi’s autonomous mobility ecosystem by boosting operator diversity and improving operational readiness.

Officials stated that the expansion comes after successful testing and pilot programs on Yas Island, enabling the service to transition fully into commercial operations for Level 4 autonomous vehicles.

Future Expansion Across Abu Dhabi

Authorities confirmed that the autonomous taxi service will gradually extend beyond Yas Island to include:

  • Al Reem Island
  • Al Maryah Island
  • Al Saadiyat Island

Passengers can request rides through the AutoGo mobile app, available on both Android and iOS.

Supporting Smart and Sustainable Transport

The Integrated Transport Centre stated that the expansion underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to building a smart mobility ecosystem, backed by strong regulatory and operational frameworks that ensure the safe and efficient commercial deployment of Level 4 autonomous vehicles.

Hamad Adel Al Afeefi, Executive Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector at Abu Dhabi Mobility, noted that introducing an additional operator represents a significant step in strengthening the emirate’s smart transport ecosystem and further positions Abu Dhabi as a hub for advanced technologies.

Public Access and Future Mobility

Waleed Alblooshi, Vice President of Strategy at K2, said the launch phase will offer free rides, giving residents and visitors the chance to experience autonomous mobility as a practical transport option ahead of the next phase of broader commercial operations.

Authorities stated that the initiative highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to innovation, integration, and sustainability, while reinforcing collaborations with global technology leaders to provide safer and more efficient mobility solutions.
