Coronavirus: UAE confirms 294 new cases, 19 recoveries

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday announced 294 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the country to 1,799.

MoHAP also announced 19 new recoveries, taking the total number of recoveries to 144 as of April 5.

The patients are of various nationalities.

The announcement comes a day after the UAE confirmed 241 new cases of the infection.

In an effort to further prevent the spread of the disease, Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management on Saturday evening announced the extension of the sterilisation programme to 24 hours a day across all areas and communities in the emirate to protect the health and safety of the community. The committee also announced intensified restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles.

The measures came into effect from 8pm on Saturday, April 4, 2020 for a period of two weeks, subject to renewal.
