What is This Is Michael?
This Is Michael is a live, concert-style tribute celebrating the music and legacy of the King of Pop. When the Abu Dhabi show was first announced in May, Gulf News reported that the production features live vocals, dancers and musicians, alongside Jackson’s iconic choreography and stage style.
The show features a setlist of more than 20 songs and has sold hundreds of thousands of tickets across Europe and Latin America.
Fans can expect to hear some of Jackson’s biggest hits, including Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It and Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.
The production also toured the Gulf over the summer, with performances in Kuwait and Jeddah in August.
Who plays Michael?
Brazilian performer Lenny Jay takes centre stage as Jackson in the tribute production.
Jay has attracted attention for his striking resemblance to the late singer, both in his voice and stage presence.
His connection to Jackson’s music began in childhood. Speaking to Bandwagon earlier this year, Jay recalled first hearing Jackson’s songs when he was seven, saying the experience inspired him to imagine a future as a performer. By around 19, he had learnt the choreography for Beat It and mastered the moonwalk.
He continues to refine his vocal performance. Jay told the publication that he has spent years studying Jackson’s voice and remains committed to learning more every day.
