Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi to Provide Children with Free, World-Class Musical Education.

Abu Dhabi is taking another significant step towards strengthening its cultural landscape with the launch of a dedicated music institution that will provide children with free access to world-class musical education.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) announced on Monday, October 26, that the new home of the Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi is scheduled to open in January 2027 in the Mina Zayed (MiZa) district.

Designed by the late, internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry, the institution will feature a 600-seat concert hall and 18 rehearsal and practice rooms, providing young musicians with professional-standard facilities to develop their talents.

Free Music Training for Children Aged Six to Nine

Enrolment is now open for the academy’s first group of 100 students between the ages of six and nine.

The programme will offer comprehensive musical training covering both Western classical music and traditional Arabic music, allowing children to explore different musical styles and cultural traditions.

By removing financial barriers to high-quality music education, the initiative aims to provide aspiring young musicians with opportunities to discover their abilities and develop their skills from an early age.

The institution will also establish a long-term pathway for musical development, with additional ensembles for more advanced students expected to be introduced during its first year of operation.

Investing in Abu Dhabi’s Next Generation of Musicians

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, described the Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi as an important investment in the emirate’s cultural future.

“The Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi is an important investment in our future and in our commitment to making culture and creativity accessible to all,” he said.

“Through its free-access to world-class music education programmes, we are creating opportunities for young people to discover their talent, develop their potential and experience the lifelong benefits that music can bring.”

Al Mubarak emphasised that learning music offers valuable benefits beyond mastering an instrument or developing performance skills.

“Beyond technical ability, music fosters discipline, collaboration, creativity and confidence, qualities that shape well-rounded individuals, enrich communities and contribute to a more vibrant society,” he explained.

The initiative is designed not only to nurture musical talent but also to encourage personal growth, teamwork and creative expression among young learners.

Frank Gehry’s Architectural Legacy Expands in Abu Dhabi

The new Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi building will become another distinctive addition to the capital’s expanding collection of cultural landmarks.

Designed by celebrated architect Frank Gehry, the institution will combine purpose-built musical facilities with the architectural vision associated with his internationally recognised projects.

Gehry is also responsible for designing the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District, as well as the recently announced performing arts institution Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi.

The Youth Orchestra project further strengthens the emirate’s efforts to establish itself as a leading international destination for artistic expression, musical education and cultural innovation.

Al Mubarak said the institution would play an important role in supporting emerging musicians while contributing to Abu Dhabi’s wider creative ambitions.

“The Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi will become both a platform for emerging talent and a cornerstone of the emirate’s growing cultural ecosystem,” he said.
