Abu Dhabi Teacher Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Physically Assaulting Four Students

Date:

The teacher acknowledged hitting the students, claiming his actions were intended to maintain classroom discipline and prevent disruptions during the lesson.

Abu Dhabi: A teacher at a private school in Abu Dhabi has been sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of physically assaulting four students during a classroom lesson.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court also ordered the teacher’s deportation from the UAE and required him to cover all judicial expenses associated with the case.

According to court records, the teacher admitted to striking the four students inside their classroom, causing injuries that prevented them from carrying out their normal personal activities for a period of up to 20 days.

In its judgment, the court described the defendant’s conduct as a serious violation of established laws and regulations.

The court emphasised the importance of strict legal action to safeguard public safety, protect individual rights and discourage behaviour that exposes others to physical harm or threatens their security and well-being.

Teacher Admits Assaulting Students to Maintain Discipline

During the investigation and subsequent court proceedings, the defendant openly acknowledged physically assaulting the students.

He claimed that his actions were intended to prevent disorder and interruptions during the lesson and to correct what he considered disruptive classroom behaviour.

However, surveillance footage recorded by CCTV cameras inside the classroom provided clear evidence supporting his confession.

The recordings showed the teacher using excessive force and treating the students with extreme harshness, with no justification for the violence.

The court considered the video evidence alongside the defendant’s admissions when examining the circumstances surrounding the assaults.

Court Stresses Importance of Student Safety

In its ruling, the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court highlighted the seriousness of physical violence occurring within an educational institution, particularly during an ongoing lesson.

According to a statement issued by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the court determined that the assault represented a violation of public security and order.

The judgment stressed that such conduct compromises personal safety and threatens the security and stability of individuals.

The court’s decision reinforces the importance of protecting students from physical harm and ensuring that educational environments remain safe and secure.
