Summer campaign targets speeding, fatigue, vehicle maintenance and rider safety.

Dubai: Dubai Police has held a road safety awareness session for more than 167 motorcycle delivery riders working with Zone as part of its ongoing “Summer Without Accidents” campaign. The initiative aims to reduce traffic accidents and encourage safer driving practices across the emirate.
The session was organised by the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Department of Traffic, in collaboration with Dubai’s Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs.
The programme focused on improving riders’ knowledge of traffic rules and promoting responsible behaviour on the road, helping enhance the safety of delivery riders as well as other road users.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said delivery riders are a major focus of traffic awareness initiatives, as the nature of their work requires them to spend extended periods on the road each day.
He added that Dubai Police continues to provide riders with practical safety guidance aimed at discouraging dangerous road behaviour and reducing the risk of traffic accidents.
During the awareness session, riders were urged to follow speed limits, use designated motorcycle lanes whenever available and keep a safe distance from surrounding vehicles.
The session also warned against distracted riding and abrupt lane changes, stressing that such practices can considerably raise the chances of collisions.
Officials also emphasised the importance of wearing approved helmets and appropriate protective gear at all times. Riders were advised to make sure delivery boxes are properly secured to prevent them from affecting the motorcycle’s balance or stability while on the road.
The session also addressed the importance of regular motorcycle maintenance, particularly during the summer when high temperatures can put additional pressure on vehicles. Riders were encouraged to routinely inspect and service their motorcycles, including checking tyres, brakes, oil levels and other key components to reduce the chances of mechanical problems while travelling.
Bin Suwaidan also highlighted the need for riders to get sufficient rest and avoid riding when they are tired or fatigued.
“The safety of the rider and other road users must always come first,” he said, adding that meeting delivery deadlines should never take priority over following traffic regulations and safe riding practices.
As part of the programme, participants were introduced to Dubai Police’s traffic safety platform, which provides educational resources, safety advice and awareness materials to help road users recognise potential risks and develop safer driving habits.
Dubai Police urged riders to regularly use the platform and benefit from its educational content. Officials said such awareness initiatives are important in strengthening a culture of responsible driving and improving road safety among delivery riders, who spend significant amounts of time travelling across the emirate.
