Dense fog causes traffic delays across Abu Dhabi as police issue safety alert.
Dense fog reduced visibility across Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning, slowing traffic on several major roads and prompting Abu Dhabi Police to issue a fresh safety alert. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the fog is expected to persist until 8:30am.
Live traffic maps showed congestion building along several key corridors across the emirate.
On the E11, slow-moving traffic was reported between Old Rahba and Al Shahama New, near SEHA – Al Rahba Hospital and AlWahda Academy. Further south, heavy congestion was visible around the Rabdan interchange near Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, extending through Mohamed Bin Zayed City and Mazyad Mall towards the E30 and E22.
Traffic also slowed along the E75 near Al Faya Industrial and Al Faya South, while additional congestion was reported around the Bani Yas and Mafraq Industrial Area interchanges on the E22.
Roads near Zayed International Airport, including the E20 and Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, were also affected, with amber and red sections on traffic maps indicating slower speeds during the morning commute.
In a post on X, Abu Dhabi Police issued a fog alert, urging motorists to drive with caution due to reduced horizontal visibility and to follow the variable speed limits displayed on road signs and electronic boards.
The NCM said foggy conditions are expected to continue until around 8:30am, after which visibility should gradually improve as temperatures rise through the day.
Authorities have reiterated standard fog-driving advice, urging motorists to reduce their speed according to variable speed limits displayed on road signs, maintain a safe following distance and use low-beam headlights. Drivers are also advised to avoid sudden lane changes or overtaking and, if visibility drops sharply, pull over safely rather than stopping in a live lane.
