Growing Chinese investment in the UAE and rising travel between the two countries could pave the way for broader cooperation, China’s consul general says.
An increasing number of Chinese companies are investing and expanding their operations in the UAE, while rising travel between the two countries is creating fresh opportunities for stronger bilateral cooperation, according to China’s consul general in Dubai.
Speaking at a recent reception in Dubai commemorating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Consul General Ou Boqian said China-UAE relations are continuing to broaden, with cooperation extending into new sectors and areas.
She described China and the UAE as trusted friends and close partners, highlighting their shared commitment to strengthening ties and pursuing development together.
Ou said the UAE is attracting a growing number of Chinese businesses seeking investment and commercial opportunities, while more Chinese visitors are travelling to the country to experience its dynamic and open environment.
She added that travel is increasing in the opposite direction as well, with a rising number of UAE residents visiting China and gaining greater exposure to the country and its culture.
Ou said China views the economic progress of both countries as mutually beneficial, with China’s development creating opportunities for the UAE and the UAE’s continued prosperity opening new possibilities for China.
New Areas of Growth
Ou said China’s latest five-year development plan could open additional avenues for cooperation with the UAE, particularly in fast-growing sectors such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and new energy. She added that China remains focused on pursuing high-quality economic development while further opening its economy.
Her remarks come as China and the UAE seek to broaden collaboration across a range of industries. Earlier this week, on the sidelines of Arabian Travel Market 2026 in Dubai, Ou held discussions with Sharjah tourism officials on strengthening cooperation in areas including tourism, culture and technology.
Ou said China is keen to work closely with the UAE to translate emerging opportunities into practical partnerships that deliver benefits for people in both countries.
Middle East Stability
Ou also spoke about developments in the Middle East, reiterating China’s position that countries in the region should have a central role in shaping their own future and security arrangements.
She said the Middle East belongs to its people and stressed that decisions concerning the region’s future should ultimately be made by those who live there.
Ou also referred to Beijing’s proposed “new security architecture for the Middle East”, saying China intends to cooperate with regional countries and the wider international community in efforts to promote peace and stability.
According to positions outlined by the Chinese government, the proposed framework calls for greater regional responsibility in maintaining shared security, resolving disputes through political and diplomatic channels, supporting security through economic development, and strengthening international coordination.
The reception concluded with exhibitions highlighting Chinese culture and development as well as China-UAE cooperation, followed by a performance by the Nanjing Qingning Choir.
