Dubai’s iconic Toyota Building set for demolition in 2027

Date:

Management says tenants can remain until December 2026, while some have already begun moving out.

Dubai: The city’s well-known Toyota Building on Sheikh Zayed Road is set to be demolished in 2027, according to the real estate division managing the property, marking the end of one of Dubai’s most recognisable residential landmarks.

The confirmation follows videos circulating on social media showing tenants moving out of the building and sharing memories of their time there. The building management was contacted to clarify the situation.

An agent from the property’s real estate division, managed by NRL Group, or Nasser Rashid Lootah Real Estate, confirmed that the building is scheduled to be demolished in 2027.

The agent did not provide an exact date for the demolition or any further details on the timeline.

Tenants can stay until December 2026

According to the agent, residents with valid rental contracts can continue living in the building until December 2026.

When asked why some tenants had already moved out, the agent said those leaving included residents whose electricity supply had been disconnected by the authorities.

The agent said the issue was linked to a number of partitioned apartments in the building.

Further details have been sought from the relevant authorities regarding the electricity disconnections and the situation involving the partitioned units.

A Sheikh Zayed Road landmark

The Nasser Rashid Lootah Building was completed in 1974, at a time when Dubai was far less developed and densely built than it is today.

The 15-storey residential complex, which stands about 65 metres tall, was among the first three buildings constructed in the area around the First Roundabout on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The building became widely known as the Toyota Building after a neon Toyota sign was installed on its roof, where it remained for around four decades.

The bright red sign was first put up in 1981 and was removed in 2018 after the advertising contract expired.

However, in June 2022, Toyota UAE reinstated the iconic logo after an absence of nearly four years.

The residential building comprises one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and has remained a familiar landmark along Sheikh Zayed Road for more than five decades.

Its planned demolition in 2027 will mark the end of an era, while current tenants with valid rental contracts can remain in the building until December 2026, according to the management.
