UAE Black Points: How to Remove Four Points from Your Driving Licence

Date:

Annual ‘Day Without Accidents’ initiative allows safe drivers to remove four UAE black points.

Dubai: UAE motorists can register from August 17 for an annual road-safety campaign that gives eligible drivers the opportunity to have four black points removed from their driving records.

The Ministry of Interior’s ‘Day Without Accidents’ campaign will take place on August 31, coinciding with the start of the new school year.

Organised by the Federal Traffic Council in coordination with police forces across the UAE, the initiative aims to promote safer driving and greater awareness, particularly as roads around schools become busier with the return of students.

How Can Motorists Register?

Registration opens on August 17, 2026, through a link shared on the Ministry of Interior’s official social media account, @MOIUAE.

Motorists can scan the QR code featured in the campaign’s Instagram post and sign in using UAE Pass to complete the registration process.

To take part in the campaign, drivers must:

  • Agree to the campaign’s road-safety commitments.
  • Sign the official campaign pledge.
  • Follow the initiative’s terms and conditions.
  • Drive responsibly and avoid traffic violations.

After selecting “I agree”, participants will receive a certificate of participation by email. The certificate will be sent to the email address registered with their UAE Pass.

How Can You Get Four Black Points Removed?

Drivers who meet all the campaign requirements and conditions may be eligible to have four black points removed from their driving record.

The campaign’s safe-driving commitments include:

  • Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.
  • Giving way to pedestrians.
  • Wearing a seat belt at all times.
  • Following posted speed limits.
  • Avoiding distracted driving and mobile-phone use.
  • Giving priority to emergency vehicles.
  • Staying within designated lanes.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy before setting off.

Why Is the Campaign Being Held on the First Day of School?

August 31 coincides with the start of the new school year, when traffic is expected to increase around schools and residential areas.

Motorists are being urged to drive patiently, obey speed limits and remain particularly alert around children, pedestrians, school buses and other road users. The broader goal is to encourage drivers to adopt the campaign’s safety practices throughout the year, rather than only on August 31.

What Are Black Points?

Black points are penalties added to a driver’s licence for certain traffic violations. Accumulating black points can lead to additional penalties and restrictions, depending on the offence and the total number recorded.

While some traffic offences may result in a fine alone, more serious violations can also add black points to a motorist’s driving record.

A driver can accumulate between four and 24 black points. If another violation is committed after reaching the 24-point threshold, the case may be referred to the UAE courts, where the driving licence could be confiscated or suspended.

For motorists who already have black points, the Day Without Accidents campaign offers an opportunity to have four points removed, provided they participate and meet all the initiative’s requirements.
