Dubai Duty Free customers can now make purchases using cryptocurrency.

Date:

Transactions are processed securely through the platform’s regulated payment system, with merchants receiving settlements in UAE dirhams instantly.

Customers at Dubai Duty Free can now complete payments using Crypto.com Pay, making Dubai Duty Free the first airport retailer in the Middle East to introduce this regulated digital payment solution.

Eligible customers can use Crypto.com Pay across Dubai Duty Free locations at Dubai International Airport (DXB), Al Maktoum International Airport (AMIA), and through its online platform.

Customers can authorise payments at checkout through their Crypto.com accounts, with transactions processed securely via Crypto.com’s regulated payment infrastructure. Dubai Duty Free merchants will receive settlements in UAE dirhams instantly.

How customers can use the service

How it works

The new payment option has been integrated into Dubai Duty Free’s existing checkout system, allowing customers to use Crypto.com Pay across in-store, online and mobile purchases.

1. In-store purchases

When customers select Crypto.com Pay at checkout, the point-of-sale system generates a unique Crypto.com QR code displaying the purchase amount in UAE dirhams. Customers can scan the code using the Crypto.com App and approve the payment directly from their wallet.

Once the transaction is authorised, the purchase is instantly confirmed through Dubai Duty Free’s existing point-of-sale system.

2. Online purchases

Customers shopping through Dubai Duty Free’s website can choose Crypto.com Pay as their payment method during checkout. A unique QR code is generated, which customers scan using the Crypto.com App before confirming the payment from their wallet.

After successful authorisation, the order is immediately confirmed through Dubai Duty Free’s existing order management system.

3. Mobile purchases

Customers using mobile devices are redirected directly to the Crypto.com App after selecting Crypto.com Pay. They can review and approve the transaction before returning to Dubai Duty Free to complete their purchase.

Other existing payment solutions

The new payment option adds to Dubai Duty Free’s existing range of payment methods, including Apple Pay, Alipay and TerraPay.

The launch supports the Dubai Cashless Strategy under the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to make 90 per cent of financial transactions across the public and private sectors cashless by the end of 2026.

The rollout follows the regulatory framework set by the Central Bank of the UAE. Crypto.com is the first Virtual Asset Service Provider in the UAE to receive a Stored Value Facilities licence from the Central Bank of the UAE, allowing it to provide regulated payment services under the conditions of the licence.
