Dust, rain and scorching temperatures: What to expect across the UAE

Date:

Fresh winds could raise dust as unsettled weather persists before easing over the weekend.

Dubai: The UAE is in for another hot and partly cloudy Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach 48°C in inland areas and convective clouds likely to bring rainfall to parts of the eastern and southern regions, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The NCM said a surface low-pressure system extending from the east, together with an upper-level low-pressure system, will create favourable conditions for cloud formation later in the day, increasing the chances of showers in some areas.

Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, blowing at 10–25km/h and gusting up to 40km/h, are expected to raise dust and sand at times, reducing visibility in some areas. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Temperatures are expected to reach 47°C to 48°C in inland areas, 43°C to 47°C across coastal and island regions, and 32°C to 37°C in the mountains.

The unsettled weather pattern is forecast to persist into Friday, bringing partly cloudy skies and another chance of convective cloud formation over eastern and southern parts of the country, with the possibility of rainfall. Winds will remain light to moderate, occasionally freshening to 40km/h, which could stir blowing dust in exposed areas.

Weather conditions are expected to become more stable over the weekend. Saturday will be fair to partly cloudy, although convective clouds could still develop over eastern and southern areas. Humidity is also expected to increase overnight and into Sunday morning, particularly along parts of the western coast.

By Sunday and Monday, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts generally fair to partly cloudy skies, with only isolated cloud development over eastern regions. Winds will gradually shift from southeasterly to northwesterly while remaining light to moderate, with occasional gusts of up to 35km/h. Sea conditions are expected to remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.
