Argentina edged England 2-1 to reach the World Cup final and keep their title defence alive.

Late goals from Fernandez and Martinez send Argentina past England into World Cup final.

Defending champions Argentina staged a dramatic late comeback to beat England 2-1 on Wednesday and secure a place in the World Cup final.

After trailing 1-0 with just five minutes of normal time remaining, Argentina turned the match around through late goals from Enzo Fernandez and substitute Lautaro Martinez to book their spot in the title decider.

Anthony Gordon had put England ahead, but Lionel Messi’s Argentina mounted a stunning late comeback.

Argentina’s relentless pressure finally paid off when Enzo Fernandez fired home the equaliser in the 85th minute before substitute Lautaro Martinez headed in the winner two minutes into stoppage time, completing a dramatic turnaround.

The semifinal renewed one of international football’s fiercest rivalries, with a vibrant atmosphere building long before kickoff as fans from both nations competed to drown out each other’s national anthem.

Argentina will now face Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as they bid to retain the title.
