Bombings strike Iran’s Rask, Chabahar and Bampur Army garrisons, killing seven: Report

Date:

US strikes target Chabahar port control facility and Bampur Army garrison in southeastern Iran.

Two projectiles struck the southeastern Iranian cities of Rask and Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchestan province late on Wednesday, triggering explosions reported by Iranian media. Authorities did not immediately release details on the extent of the damage or any casualties.

Subsequent reports from Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency said a renewed US strike hit the maritime traffic control centre at Chabahar Port, while Iranian authorities also reported attacks elsewhere in Sistan and Baluchestan province, including the Bampur Army garrison.

According to Tasnim, at least seven Iranian military personnel were killed in the strike on the Bampur garrison.

The attacks come amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran, with southeastern Iran emerging as a new front in the conflict beyond the Strait of Hormuz.

Chabahar holds strategic importance as Iran’s only deep-water port on the Gulf of Oman. Located outside the Strait of Hormuz, it serves as a vital commercial gateway and a key hub for the country’s naval operations.

Rask, situated near Iran’s border with Pakistan, has long been home to Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facilities and has previously been targeted in militant attacks.

Iranian authorities have not officially blamed any specific party for the latest strikes, though state and semi-official media have portrayed them as part of ongoing US military operations. Independent verification of those claims remains limited.
