Three buses and a car were involved in a collision after a bus broke down in an active traffic lane.
Dubai Police has issued a safety warning about the risks of stopping in the middle of the road due to breakdowns, fuel shortages, or tyre failures, following a serious multi-vehicle crash on Jebel Ali Road.
The incident occurred when a bus came to a sudden stop in a live lane due to a technical fault. A vehicle and two other buses were unable to avoid it, leading to a chain-reaction rear-end collision.
The crash injured 25 people, with injuries ranging from minor to serious and moderate. All of the victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
How the collision unfolded
Initial findings suggest that a stationary bus created a sudden obstruction on a busy stretch of road, giving approaching drivers too little time to react.
Authorities said the impacts happened within moments as vehicles approached at speed and were unable to brake in time. Emergency services were quickly alerted and dispatched to the scene.
Police response and traffic control
Dubai Police activated its Command and Control Centre and sent traffic accident investigators to the scene to examine the crash and reconstruct how the incident unfolded.
Traffic patrols secured the area, managed congestion, and facilitated access for emergency services, while damaged vehicles were cleared to restore normal traffic flow.
Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, said teams followed standard procedures to prevent secondary incidents and ensure safety at the scene.
Warning over roadside stoppages
Officials reiterated that stopping in the middle of the road due to breakdowns, fuel depletion, or tyre failure is among the most hazardous traffic violations.
Under Federal Traffic Law, such behaviour carries a Dh1,000 fine and six black points, along with an additional Dh500 penalty for obstructing traffic under Article 98.
Al Awar warned that roadside stoppages can quickly escalate into serious or fatal collisions, especially on high-speed roads.
Safety guidance for motorists
Drivers are advised to take immediate safety precautions in the event of a breakdown:
- Activate hazard warning lights.
- Prioritise passenger safety.
- Place a warning triangle at a safe distance, where possible.
- Exit the vehicle and move away from traffic.
- Contact Dubai Police for assistance and road safety support.
Authorities stressed that ensuring vehicle roadworthiness before travel is the first line of defence against such incidents.
