Spain cruise into the World Cup last 16 with a commanding 3–0 victory over Austria.

Yamal stars as Spain maintain control and extend their clean-sheet run in a dominant victory in Los Angeles.

Spain advanced to the Round of 16 with a commanding 3–0 win over Austria, showcasing their trademark possession-based dominance and clinical finishing.

At Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, Luis de la Fuente’s side controlled the game from the opening whistle, repeatedly breaking down Austria’s defence with quick passing and constant movement.

Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice, while Pedro Porro added the third, as La Roja recorded their fourth clean sheet of the tournament.

Austria, led by captain David Alaba and midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, spent much of the match chasing the ball as Spain controlled the tempo through Rodri, Pedri, Dani Olmo, and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Spain believed they had taken the lead midway through the first half when Marc Cucurella bundled the ball into the net from a corner.

However, the goal was disallowed after the referee ruled that defender Pau Cubarsí had obstructed Austrian goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

The decision briefly halted Spain’s momentum, but it had little impact on the overall flow of the match.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 36th minute.

Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute, finishing off a well-worked move.

Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead in the 66th minute with a composed finish, before Mikel Oyarzabal sealed the result late on with his second goal in the 89th minute.

In the closing stages, Marc Cucurella split the Austrian defence with a perfectly weighted pass, releasing Oyarzabal, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to complete a 3–0 victory.

It was Cucurella’s second assist of the match, rounding off an outstanding all-round performance.

Yamal: Man of the match

Lamine Yamal was named man of the match for his creative influence on the wing, while Spain’s defence, led by young centre-back Pau Cubarsí, remained solid throughout.

Unai Simón’s fourth consecutive clean sheet highlighted Spain’s defensive resilience.

This marks Spain’s first World Cup knockout win since their 2010 triumph. They will face the winner of Portugal vs. Croatia in the next round.

Spain controlled the match from start to finish, outclassing a resilient but overmatched Austria side in a stylish performance that strengthens their title ambitions.

Spain finished with a commanding edge in possession and chances created, extending their perfect defensive record in the tournament without conceding a goal.

Goalkeeper Unai Simón was rarely tested as Austria struggled to produce sustained attacking pressure.

The win sends Spain into the Round of 16, where they will meet the winner of the Portugal–Croatia clash.

With traditional heavyweights Germany and the Netherlands already eliminated, Spain’s fluid attack, disciplined defence, and depth of emerging talent have strengthened their status as one of the tournament favourites.
