UAE and Qatar formalise data protection cooperation through new MoU

Agreement enhances protection of shared security information and digital traffic management systems.

DOHA: The UAE Ministry of Interior and Qatar’s Ministry of Interior have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at safeguarding data and information exchanged through joint security projects.

The agreement was signed during an official visit to Qatar by a UAE Ministry of Interior delegation led by Major General Khalifa Harib Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry. During the visit, the delegation was received by Abdullah bin Khalaf bin Hattab Al-Kaabi, Undersecretary of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior.

The MoU covers six joint initiatives between the two countries, including network interconnection, an electronic system linking traffic violation records, integration of traffic management systems, mechanisms for transferring and recovering fines related to traffic offences, and the electronic exchange of data, fingerprints of deportees, and unidentified fingerprint records.

The MoU was signed as part of ongoing efforts to deepen security cooperation and coordination between the two countries, enhancing the exchange of security information, expertise and best practices while promoting the use of advanced technologies to support security and stability.

The agreement also seeks to strengthen the framework for bilateral security collaboration and improve the integration of security services and joint projects between the two sides.
