Offshore wind farms off the northeast coast of England are expected to bring jobs and economic growth to the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Masdar and global clean energy company RWE have welcomed the approval of the Development Consent Order granted by the UK Energy Secretary’s legal authority for the two Dogger Bank South offshore wind projects.
The proposed DBS West and DBS East wind farms are expected to deliver a combined installed capacity of 3GW and generate enough electricity to power around 3 million UK homes annually.
Located more than 100km off the northeast coast of England, the projects are also expected to create significant economic opportunities for businesses and communities in Yorkshire, the Humber, and across the wider UK.
In January 2026, the projects secured Contracts for Difference (CfD) from the UK Government under Allocation Round 7, strengthening their progress toward development.
The Development Consent Order application was originally submitted in June 2024, with more than 1,000 documents filed for review by the Planning Inspectorate and 10 online examination hearings conducted.
RWE and Masdar will now proceed with detailed final design work and advance procurement planning, with the aim of reaching a final investment decision (FID) in 2027.
The projects are being developed through a joint venture between RWE (51%) and Masdar (49%).
