Sharjah authorities provide public guidance on emergency alerts

Date:

New public safety guidelines aim to strengthen Sharjah’s emergency readiness.

Sharjah: The Sharjah Government Media Bureau has released a set of public safety guidelines detailing how residents should respond to official emergency alerts. The guidance emphasizes the importance of remaining calm and relying solely on information from official authorities.

The guide also outlines precautionary measures to protect the public during emergencies and urges residents to strictly follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

Safety inside buildings

The guidelines advise that people inside homes, offices, or other buildings should stay away from balconies, windows, and other open areas, and move to a secure indoor location.

Residents are encouraged to follow alerts carefully, whether delivered through internal broadcast systems or instructions from building security personnel. Authorities advise avoiding lifts if instructed, staying away from glass barriers or surfaces, and remaining indoors until the UAE Ministry of Interior confirms that the situation is safe.

Guidance for those outdoors

For individuals outdoors during an alert, the guide recommends heading immediately to the nearest safe building. Those driving are advised to proceed calmly to the closest suitable location where they can safely seek shelter.

People are advised to stay away from windows, exterior walls, and glass panels while awaiting further instructions.

Avoid spreading rumours

The Sharjah Government Media Bureau urged the public to follow updates only from official authorities and rely solely on verified information.

Residents were specifically warned not to share rumours, voice recordings, or unverified videos circulating on social media platforms, as doing so could create confusion and panic.

Cooperate with authorities

The guidelines emphasize the importance of cooperating with security and emergency teams during any incident. Members of the public are advised to contact the emergency number 999 when necessary.

Authorities also urged residents to refrain from photographing or sharing images or videos from incident sites.

Officials noted that these guidelines are part of Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community preparedness, enhance public safety, and ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential services during emergencies.
