Autonomous freight vehicles start trial operations in the KEZAD Industrial Zone.

Abu Dhabi has launched the region’s first pilot program for autonomous logistics and freight trucks, advancing the emirate’s efforts toward smart mobility.
The trial is being conducted by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) in partnership with global autonomous systems firm Autotech and AD Ports Group.
Pilot runs in KEZAD
The driverless trucks are operating along designated routes within the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), a major industrial and logistics hub. Officials stated that the project aims to evaluate autonomous truck performance in a controlled industrial setting before any wider deployment. The vehicles are operating under approved safety regulations and operational standards.
Throughout 2025, developers worked under the guidance of Abu Dhabi Mobility to fine-tune the artificial intelligence systems for local roads and freight needs. The goal was to ensure the trucks can operate safely and efficiently under real-world conditions.
Preparing for wider rollout
Authorities say the trial will help evaluate the readiness of autonomous truck technology for commercial deployment and provide real-world data to inform future transport regulations.
The project is part of broader efforts to enhance Abu Dhabi’s smart mobility network and establish a legal framework for emerging transport technologies. Officials note that autonomous freight vehicles could improve delivery times, lower operational costs, and strengthen supply chains across industrial zones.
Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, described the pilot as a significant milestone.
Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli noted that the initiative extends the use of autonomous systems beyond passenger transport to include freight and logistics. He added that testing the technology in a structured, monitored environment enables regulators to shape future policies based on practical insights.
Boosting efficiency and innovation
Officials highlighted that autonomous freight services could improve transport network efficiency and enhance the competitiveness of key economic sectors.
The project also aligns with the goals of the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which seeks to position the country as a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
Abu Dhabi Mobility stated it will continue collaborating with local and international partners on pilot projects that foster innovation while upholding safety and sustainability standards.
