Multiple accidents on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed and Emirates Roads trigger major traffic delays in Dubai and Sharjah

Date:

Google Maps traffic data indicated severe red congestion across key Dubai routes.

Dubai: Motorists across Dubai and Sharjah faced a challenging Thursday morning commute as multiple accidents caused significant tailbacks on major arterial roads.

The worst disruptions were reported on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road (E611), where a series of accidents slowed traffic to a near standstill. Real-time data from Google Maps showed deep red congestion along both routes, highlighting the scale of the delays.

Chokepoints in Dubai

In addition to the heavy congestion on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311), several other key routes in Dubai were also heavily affected:

  • Al Khail Road (E44) – Slow-moving traffic during peak hours due to spillover from major incidents
  • Airport Road (D89) – Bottlenecks reported near interchange junctions
  • Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) – Delays building up toward major entry and exit ramps

Authorities have urged commuters to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time, as traffic is expected to remain heavy throughout the morning.

  • Emirates Road (E611) – Heavy congestion was reported along Aleyas, a common alternative route for heavy vehicles, which are now facing restricted daytime movement.

Authorities have urged drivers to avoid these chokepoints where possible and to allow additional travel time, as delays are expected to continue throughout the morning.

Slow-moving traffic in Sharjah

Commuters starting their journeys in Sharjah faced similarly challenging conditions. Al Ittihad Street experienced bumper-to-bumper traffic through the Al Khalidiya District, a known bottleneck that typically tightens as vehicles approach the Dubai border.

Further inland, Third Industrial Street was reported as heavy through Industrial Area 3, while the Sharjah stretch of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) remained sluggish near Industrial Area 11.

Authorities have advised drivers to plan alternative routes where possible and allow extra travel time to navigate the affected areas.
